[P107S0697] Understanding Strata Development

CPD Category: Professional (2 CPD credits awarded)

Course Duration: approx 3.0 hours

Funding available: No funding

Course Description

Strata development makes up a huge number of all the developments found in Singapore. In fact, strata developments are also found in many other cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Auckland in New Zealand which are increasingly dense.

In layman’s terms, strata title owners share the ownership of common properties such as land, facilities and equipment, unlike a land title owner, who owns the land independently.

This concept of shared ownership would inevitably lead to disputes and differences between the owners. This makes investing and living in strata development sometimes complex. In Singapore, strata developments are regulated by the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act, detailing the various rights and obligations of the various stakeholders in a strata development.

This course seeks to explore the various complexities and considerations that one should have before buying or living in strata developments and to have a deeper understanding of the legislative framework of strata development in Singapore.
